A note from my Mommy (and Daddy)—
We can’t believe it was two years ago today (5:59 PM to be exact) that you entered this world and changed our lives in so many ways. Your Dad and I are constantly amazed at how much you grow and learn and become your own little person every day. We often look at each other with amazement with the things you say and do. Here are a few things we wanted to capture in writing and never forget:
•You love feeding Molly “May-Yee” and Moses every evening and most mornings. You carefully walk their full food bowls to their designated spots, tell them each to “wait” and then to “go ahead” once you are pleased with their patience. You often stand watching them eat the food that you have just provided and then carry on after a few moments to whatever it was you were doing.
•You LOVE “Buzz” from Toy Story. We have to limit your “Buzz” watching to once or twice a week, and two times now at dinner you have talked to us about the scene where Woody pushes Buzz out the window and he falls into the bushes. You are so animated and we can pick up on what you are saying with a few key words and your hand motions. When we do let you watch the movie on DVR, and the movie comes to a commercial…you politely find the remote and hand it to either Dad or myself and ask us to fast forward through the commercials. Too funny. You can also recognize “Tow-Mater” and “Lightning McQueen” from a mile away. You refer to them as “Mator” and “McKeen.”
•You still love your Blue Bear “Boos” and “Monkey” and if they aren’t within a short distance…the world knows of your displeasure, especially when you are in the mood to relax or you are getting tired. You ALWAYS suck your thumb when Blue Bear or Monkey are in your hands, and we refer to them as your “Trigger.” You rarely suck your thumb without Blue Bear or Monkey being present.
•Every time we drive down Powers Blvd, and pass Gunther Toody’s Restaurant…you say “Gam-pa!” Every time. Without fail. We are astonished that you can pick that specific building out of rows of buildings traveling 50 mph, and know THAT is the building where we frequently meet Grandma and Grandpa for burger night.
•You are known as “the helper” in your daycare class. Before recess, you will bring Ms. Eva (your favorite teacher) her shoes. You love to help pick up toys, pick up food off the floor after meal times, and make sure that all the chairs are pushed in. At home you are happy to please and help. We hope this lasts a VERY long time.
•You are becoming a very independent little toddler. You want to do EVERYTHING by yourself. “J.R do it,” is your favorite phrase. You insist on putting your own socks and shoes on, combing your own hair, eating with a BIG fork, climbing into your own chair and fastening the safety straps, bucking yourself into your car seat, pushing the entry code buttons to get into the school, drinking out of the water fountain with NO help, putting on your own jacket, going up and down the stairs, pushing doors open, and much more. If you think you can do it, or think we will let you do it…you will try.
•Some of your favorite things include school buses “bus”, garbage trucks, dump trucks, fire trucks, “diggers” and Jeeps (Wranglers, Cherokees, Liberties…does not matter). You are always super fast to point out any of your favorite vehicles in a parking lot or driving down the street. You also have a fascination with alligators or anything reptile-looking with lots of teeth. Ms. Eva tells us that they have an alligator puppet that they bring out occasionally that accompanies a song about alligators, and you promptly go to the back of the room as far away as you can from this puppet. You are NOT a fan, so maybe your fascination stems out of fear? Your teachers tell me you have been exhibiting some “quirkiness” at school…being bothered that one of your teachers pant-legs were dragging along the ground one day, and a stain on her pants had you also quite disturbed on another day. You definitely have some of the Williams traits shining through, and we can’t wait to see them surface in the years to come.
•You are starting to get very particular about your clothes and your shoes. You have a few favorite items that you request to wear on a daily basis: Your racecar PJ’s, your fire truck shirt, your Dallas Cowboys hat (that Mom isn’t too fond of), and your Chuck Taylor’s that are one size too big…so I finally had to hide them out of your sight because you would trip over them when wearing them. It is hard to explain to you when your favorite clothing items are dirty, and can’t be worn.
•You make the cutest little scrunched up face where you show your teeth when your Dad and I ask you to say “cheese” for a picture. It always has us both cracking up. You can also be quite demanding when asking for an item that you want. We always request that you “ask nicely” and then the sweetest little “peas” comes out of your mouth. How can we resist?
•You LOVE curling up in mine or Dad’s lap and looking at past pictures and video that have been taken with our phones. Your Dad and I offer explanations of the pictures and videos, who is in them, what we were doing at the time, etc…and this activity can hold your attention for extended periods of time. At least 5 times a day you demand “Pictures!!” You also beg your Dad to pick you up above his head so you can touch the ceiling by saying “Touch it!” This always makes you giggle and smile.
•Your favorite foods include: Ground beef with any sort of spices or sauce (taco beef, spaghetti beef, sloppy joe beef, BBQ beef, etc). You could care less about the noodles or the bun that usually accompanies the beef. You love your morning fruit pouches, grapes, strawberries, oranges, bananas, corn, applesauce, any type of cookie or chocolate item, yogurt, raisins, pancakes, bagels loaded with cream cheese, waffles, oatmeal, cereal, pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches, and PBJ’s. We have a really hard time getting you to eat chicken or pasta.
•You do not like wearing a bib during meals. It is often ripped off within minutes. Once you have decided you are “all done” after eating…you are really…ALL DONE, and have very little patience when it comes to waiting for us to finish our meals. You want DOWN and you want OUT and you want it NOW and let it be known. You strongly dislike it when Molly and Moses intrude on your personal space when you are not in the mood. You will tell them “Go away” and gently push them or nudge them out of your area. You do NOT like getting strapped into your car seat and you have even figured out how to unbuckle yourself while the car is in motion. Luckily, this is something that you have stopped doing on a regular basis. You do not like being told that you cannot do something, but who does?
•You talk about your “baby seeester” and point to my belly when asked where she is. Dad asked you the other day your opinion on naming her, and you suggested the name “Bubbles.” We know that you are going to be an excellent big brother.
•You are getting close to potty-training, although we really haven’t pushed it too hard yet. Almost every time you are placed on the toilet before bath time you go “pee pee.” You often tell us when you have pooped or are about to poop. This next year will be huge for you because you are moving up to the next room at daycare, and potty training is their main focus. Your current teachers LOVE you and do not want you to make the transition (which will be taking place next week). They have convinced Mom and Dad that they think you really are something special (we already knew this), and have made quite the impact on them during the last 10 months.
We are both so proud of the little person we see growing and blossoming every day. This year has zoomed by even faster than your first. We can imagine that the years will only continue to go by faster and faster, so we try and soak you in as much as we can every day as WE KNOW this won’t last forever. Happy 2nd Birthday to our little munchkin!
