Alex wearing her little skirt from Auntie Amber:
JR went to Skate City again with his class. Here he was helping his buddy, Jameson around the floor. His teacher took this picture and sent it to me.
We celebrated Grandpa's Birthday on Tuesday evening. Pizza and Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Cake! Jeff and I had a rough time finding the PERFECT ice cream cake. Ha!
The kids talked Grandpa into the Oreos on the top. Sneaky Sneaky!
Singing Happy Birthday to Grandpa
We got all packed and loaded and left the Springs around 10 am on Friday for our journey to Salida. We met Karissa and Baby Olivia so that they could caravan with us on our 2 hour trip.
The Comedian.
The kids are just so much easier to travel with these days. We are really enjoying it.
Our rental wasn't ready for us by the time we arrived, so we headed straight to Moonlight Pizza for pizza and a cold beer. Great way to start the weekend. And this little cutie...think I might have snapped more pictures of Olivia than my own kids!
The rental "cabin" was super, super nice. So much cleaner and spacious than the last two years worth of mountain cabins. This one was on 10 acres of land, and you honestly felt you were the only ones for miles. Later in the afternoon our friends Hannah and Jeff arrived.
We decided to grill out on Friday night, and while Jeff and Jeff were outside grilling...JR was playing nearby on the rocked path (as seen below). Jeff bent down to pick something up and heard the very distinct sound of a rattlesnake rattling his tail. Jeff was able to quickly get JR's attention and get him away from harm. I ran out and took this picture and the snake was going on his way. The snake sighting was a total buzz kill for Jeff. He didn't care to hang around outside very long after that...which was unfortunate. Sort of like our bear sighting the first night 2 years ago. You end up a little spooked for the rest of the trip.
On Saturday morning we met some more of our friends for breakfast right along side the river at a place called Rivers Edge. It was awesome!
Baby Olivia steals the show:
These two posed for a picture for me:
After breakfast you could walk right down and watch the rafters and kayaking taking place in the river.
After breakfast everyone came back to the rental for naps. Except for...you guessed it! Olivia (who was also up for most the night). So Karissa and I decided to leave with her and walk along the river hoping she would snooze in her stroller. She did! After about 45 minutes of walking. Ha! We got to check out all the 4th of July festivities that were taking place...so it was a win-win.
Later in the afternoon we met our friends at Moonlight Pizza (again). We wanted to check out Elevation Brewing...but there was no place for our large party. This ended up working out better because little did we know...the parade was starting at 4 and we were at a prime parade location!
The kids got to stand RIGHT up front and had large amounts of candy, toys, and Popsicles chucked at them! It was great.
Not a fan of the sirens:
Big fan of popsicles!
You can't come that close in a bigger-city parade. Everything is 10 people deep! This was so nice that Alex and JR got to stand in the first row...and the older kids next to them kept giving them some of their candy. So sweet!
Another Jeff (yes...at one point we had 3 Jeff's with us not including JR), was teasing JR going through all of his parade candy. LOL
Saturday evening (the 4th) we did smores and the kids stayed up pretty late waiting for fireworks.
YUM!
The fireworks were amazing! But didn't start until about 9:30. They went on for what felt like at least 20 minutes! The grand finale was also bigger than any that I had ever seen...and we watched them all from the back window.
Sunday morning Hannah and Baby Olivia waiting on breakfast:
Hanging around...
On Sunday we decided to go the park in Salida. We visited Danielle and Jeff's town home, and then drove to Buena Vista for more park time and...K's Burgers!
Playing in the water with the big kids:
Olivia was loving all the exploring she got to do!
Jeff showing JR how to whistle with grass:
JR teaching Olivia. So cute!
Jeff...the baby whisperer.
She insists on having a rain jacket on when there is any chance it could possibly rain.
Burger time!
Olivia got introduced to a blueberry milkshake and French Fries! YUM.
Silly goose
Making "fart noises."
We had a fantastic trip and are already talking about the plan for next year to return. The kids were bummed to return to school today.
Our company picnic is on Thursday and JR has quite a few activities lined up this week. Alex gets to visit the Whitt's End Playground for a movie on Thursday. Plans for Broadmoor Brunch with Mom and Dad on Sunday while the kids hang with Auntie Amber and Jesse. Loving the summer.
